National Tootsie Roll Day

About National Tootsie Roll Day

Date: celebrated annually on February 23

A five-year-old candy maker’s daughter nicknamed Tootsie is to thank for the name of the Tootsie Roll, which was introduced to consumers in 1896. First rolled out on February 23, the tootsie roll was a near-instant hit. And we’re still celebrating National Tootsie Roll Day every February 23 all these years later.
These cocoa flavoured candies – the first penny candies to be individually wrapped -- are manufactured in Chicago. Sixty-four million – yes 64,000,000 – Tootsie Rolls are produced each and every day. (photo credit )
