National Amaretto Day

About National Amaretto Day

Date: Celebrated annually on April 19

If you enjoy almonds you’re going to love National Amaretto Day which falls on April 19 and invites you to enjoy this nutty flavored Italian liqueur.
The drink’s bittersweet almond taste makes it a favorite for certain dishes, baked goods and cocktails.
The romantic legend goes that Amaretto originated thanks to a poor but beautiful widowed innkeeper in Saronno who in 1525 was asked to model for the artist Bernardino Luini. A student of Leonardo da Vinci, Luini was commissioned to paint a church and needed inspiration to depict the Madonna. He found it in the innkeeper and the pair fell in love. Her affection for him led her to steep apricot kernels in brandy and Amaretto was born.
