Date: Celebrated annually on Feb 6
There’s a good reason why February 6 is Bob Marley Day. That’s the birthday of the Jamaican reggae singer, musician and songwriter who would sell more than 20 million records and rise to international super-stardom, a first for a Third World performer.
Known for his crossover albums, Marley started out in 1963 as a member of the group, The Wailers. Its distinctive sound attracted audiences worldwide. When the group disbanded in 1974, Marley’s solo career continued to attract praise. A dedicated Rastafarian, Marley infused his music with spirituality.
