Date: Celebrated annually on April 25
April 25 marks World Penguin Day, a time when bird lovers around the world come together to celebrate the penguin’s funny waddle and to support their conservation. April 25 also happens to coincide with the annual northern migration of our tuxedoed flightless friends.
Though there are 17 species of penguins, they come in different sizes and shapes with different black and white markings. These birds are fun to watch as they shuffle awkwardly along on ice but in the water is where their beauty and gracefulness truly shines.
Some are warm-water species while others live in bitter cold temperatures. All penguins are highly social and enjoy living in close-knit group sometimes numbering in the thousands.
